Understanding the molecular mechanisms of adaptation and the dynamics of experimental evolution is crucial for deciphering how organisms respond to environmental challenges. These processes are fundamental across disciplines such as medicine, biotechnology, ecology, and evolutionary biology. At a time when climate change, emerging diseases, and biodiversity loss threaten global stability, uncovering the molecular basis of adaptation is both scientifically imperative and socially urgent.
This meeting will explore how cutting-edge technologies—including high-throughput sequencing and gene-editing tools—are transforming our ability to study evolution in real-time. By integrating experimental and computational approaches, researchers are revealing the genomic and phenotypic foundations of adaptation with unprecedented resolution.
The 2025 SMBE Satellite meeting will bring together researchers working across diverse biological systems to address key ecological and evolutionary questions, such as how organisms adapt to new environmental conditions and how genotypic variation translates into phenotypic diversity. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, this event will catalyze innovative collaborations and provide a dynamic platform for early-career scientists to engage with leading experts in the field.

This session addresses how organisms adapt to environmental changes at the molecular level, with emphasis on the genomic and/or biochemical mechanisms involved. It includes studies on adaptation to extreme climates, emerging diseases, or environmental pollutants.
This section covers experimental evolution as a tool to study the adaptation or improvement of organisms to extreme or changing environments.
This session focuses on genetic variation in natural populations and how natural selection influences evolution. It would include topics such as the application of genomics in conservation.
This section explores how climate change affects biodiversity and evolution at the molecular and genomic levels, including adaptations to new thermal regimes or changes in resource availability, with applications in health, agriculture, and conservation.
The best way to reach Puerto Varas depends on your departure point and budget. Here are the most efficient options:
✈️ Option 1: International Flight + Domestic Flight + Transfer (Fastest Option)
🚀 Total travel time from Santiago: ~2.5 hours (excluding layovers and waiting times).
🚌 Option 2: International Flight + Bus (More Budget-Friendly)
💰 Cheaper but much slower.
